Every grieving process is individual and moves at its own pace. There is no set pattern. The following suggestions are intended as guidance for the first days and weeks after the farewell.
Suggestions for the first weeks
01
Allow yourself time and rest
You do not have to make every decision at once in the first days. Focus on the most urgent matters; anything without a deadline can wait.
02
Lean on community and support
Family, friends or your community can give you important support during this time. Do not hesitate to accept help with everyday tasks or official matters.
03
Look after your health
Physical wellbeing can easily be neglected in times of grief. Make a conscious effort to get enough rest, eat regularly and take short breaks in the fresh air.
04
Include children with care
Children experience grief in their own way. Explain the situation in clear, age-appropriate words and give their questions attention and space.
05
Make room for remembrance
Whether shared prayer, visiting the grave or personal conversations about the deceased – choose the ways of remembering that bring comfort to you and your family.
06
Seek professional support
If the burden persists for a longer period, do not hesitate to seek medical or psychological advice or pastoral support services.
